Frauenkirche

Munich
Frauenkirche is the largest church in Munich and one of the largest Gothic buildings in southern Germany. Frauenkirche (Cathedral of our Blessed Lady) is located just east of Marienplatz in central Munich. Its distinctive domes built in 1525 would be a typical model for many of Bavaria’s towers.

The church itself is enormous and can hold up to 20,000 people! You'll see the tombs of the Wittelsbach family in the crypt along with many dukes and bishops are also buried. One of the most interesting features inside Frauenkirche is the memorial grave in black marble of Prince Elector Kurfurst Maximilian I – the Duke of Bavaria. Also look out for "The Devil's Footstep" that you can see on the floor at the entrance to the church – if you look at the footprint closely enough you can see the tail!

While in the church take the opportunity to climb the stairs to view the city of Munich and a breathtaking view of the Alpine mountains.
